Three Quick and Easy Steps To Going Vegan

Photo: SoapBoxie

I've been a Vegan for a year now, almost literally to the date, and I can't tell you what an incredible experience it has been. With improved health, more energy, and with an added appreciation for our planet. Being a Vegan has made a profound impact on my identity as a person. So if you're new to Veganism, off an on, or been a faithful plant eater for three decades, I think you'll find my quick tips on how to stay or go Vegan useful.

1) Throw it all out. If it's your first day Vegan, do me a favor, when you're done reading this, go into your kitchen, pull out a big black Hefty bag and throw everything in there that isn't plant-based, away. Trust me, it will be ten times easier for you to commit if you throw any temptations out (even if you just bought those groceries). I personally find it easier to make a change in my life, by going all in.
Don't know where to start, check out these blogs.

  • Plenty Vegan specializes in kits and some pretty nice information on what to look for in the store.
  • I Love Vegan is an incredible resource to help you build that first Vegan grocery list.

2) Raise your awareness, get educated on Veganism. There are a lot of resources for you to utilize, and my advice is to take advantage of these documentaries to help you get your feet under you. Who doesn't like some Netflix and youtube?

3) Jump In. Go to vegan restaurants, try all kinds of recipes, join some meetup's or Facebook groups, make friends, and live knowing that your life isn't hurting another creature. You'll find people almost everywhere just like you, that more than anything desire to end animal suffering and live better sustainable lives.

Bonus note: 99% of alcohol is already Vegan, so cheers to 'Plants and Pints.'
