How To Save The World With One Choice - Go VEGAN

"The single biggest thing that an individual can do to combat climate change is to stop eating animals" - James Cameron

Now I know what you're thinking, Veganism can save the world...'Fuck yeah!' Okay, maybe you're more likely thinking that's the most absurd thing I've ever read on the internet. But outside of the academic community, and most climate change activists; many people don't realize that the leading cause of climate change is deforestation, land degradation, and widespread pollution from consuming animal products. Much of that deforestation is used to make land available to keep up with the world's consumption of animal products (farms). In essence, we grow more and more food, to feed our food; and in the process, we are sucking the life out of this planet. Animals need those crops to maintain the supply and demand for global food production, which are ever increasing. Thus more and more forests are cleared, entire ecosystems pushed to the point of extinction, and the only thing people seem to want to fight about is the loggers destroying the forest. It won't take you long to put two and two together here. The reason rainforests, for example, are being mowed down by loggers is to make room for the demand of more and more farming needed to keep up the world's consumption of animal products. We already have more than enough land clearance, that if by some miracle the entire planet went vegan today, we could sustain five times or more the earth's population. Overpopulation and starvation need not be a threat. I'm not downplaying the other obvious contributions to climate change, but I am stating that being a good steward of the environment is the same as someone who doesn't contribute to the suffering of animals. It's their suffering that will win in the end, if we do nothing to change. The more we consume, the more it will destroy our world. The unnecessary genocide of species for the convenience of giving your kid diabetes at Mcdonalds is a death spiral. Yeah, I went there!

Now I respect farming and find it to be one of the noblest and purer callings a person can have. I grew up farming; I could drive a tractor before I could drive a car. And my best adolescent memories are those hot summer days with my grandfather as we worked it together. He raised Angus beef cattle, which resulted in my own first-hand experience for what it looks like to put food on the table. I, like most kids, was appalled at first, and like most grandparents, they did what they could to comfort me and tell me it's God's will that we eat these creatures, as well as other reasons. And although we were kind toward our animals, they often adorned our social media, figurines of them decorated our kitchen and we always enjoyed taking an opportunity to play with newborns, it still never can change the fact that those animals do not want to die. They fear death just like you and I do. They are fully sentient and can love their children as much as we do our own. We are all animals, and we don't need to eat them to survive to be healthy. On the contrary, the consumption of animal by-products is destroying our health. But that's a different post, for a different time.

It's human nature to only see what's in front of us. Change of any kind can be uncomfortable, but it's safe to assume that most of you are aware that this planet is already well 'off its rocker.' But we can make a difference, not just for the bigger picture of protecting our planet's future for many more generations, but by doing so living in a way that brings harmony between mankind and the other animals we share this Earth with. Think garden of Eden. If you want to make a difference and call yourself a true environmentalist, Go VEGAN.
